5 Reasons to Switch to LED Bulbs Going Forward!

Last Updated

In 2019, we helped more people than ever make the switch to LED Bulbs. We’ve seen homeowners, restaurants, offices & factories make the switch to reduce costs, improve lighting quality or to add ambience. You’d be surprised at how much money you could save, just by replacing your existing bulbs with LED Bulbs. But that’s not the only reason to make the switch. We’ll be going over the top five reasons to make the switch!

#1 – Use your existing fittings for no fuss installations!

This may come as a surprise to some people, but modern-day LED Bulbs can all be retro-fitted to existing fittings. From GU10 LED Bulbs, most often found in kitchens, to bayonet cap or B22 bulbs.

LED Bulbs allow you to simply plug them in and enjoy your new lighting experience straight away. There’s no need for an electrician to come and change existing fittings. If you opt for a straight replacement of bulbs, there’s absolutely no fuss. If, however, you want to change to dimmable LED Bulbs, you will have to change the existing dimming switch to ensure it’s compatible with the new system.

#2 – LED Bulbs require changing FAR less often!

Yes, LED Bulbs can last up to 50 times longer than equivalent incandescent or halogen bulbs.

Light Emitting Diodes are semi-conductors, meaning that when electrons pass over them, it creates light. Unlike, typical incandescent light bulbs, there is very little wasted heat. Incandescent bulbs work by sending electricity through the filament producing vast amounts of heat to create light.

Each time you turn on an incandescent bulb, a relatively huge amount of energy is sent through conductive materials that burn white hot to create light and heat. This process will eventually mean the filament burns up and then pops.

LED Bulbs produce almost no heat thanks to the design & inclusion of specially crafted aluminium heat sinks to absorb what little heat is created, allowing the diodes to operate for much longer.

So whilst your existing incandescent bulbs start to dwindle, your LED Bulbs will carry on performing for months longer!

#3 – LED Bulbs can save you money & save the planet!

So, we’re finally going to talk about the elephant in the room! That’s right, LED Bulbs save you money. Whilst the initial purchasing cost can potentially be considerable, depending on the property, the bulbs will often pay for themselves in less than a year.

A few years ago, our sister site was featured in The Guardian , the reports and its findings still stand up today! The article covers the journey of switching to LED bulbs from incandescent and halogen bulbs and the benefits enjoyed once the transition was complete. Well worth a read for anyone who’s considering the switch!

Our sister site’s Energy Saving Calculator allows you to enter the details of your current lighting set up and shows you how much money you can save each year on electricity bills. This tool is invaluable to many people looking to make the switch. The average UK household can save around £160 a year just by switching to LED Bulbs. Can you afford to needlessly spend £160 when the solution to this is so simple?

On average, our customers report savings that mean the LED Bulbs pay for themselves in under 12 months and go on to make incredible savings over the lifespan of each LED Bulb.

As well as saving money, you can also be helping to save the planet!

LED Bulbs are simply constructed with no hazardous materials or chemicals like mercury that are often found in more traditional bulbs. These materials, whilst posing no threat to home dwellers, are bad for the environment and due to the short life span of these bulbs, they are often sent to landfills and not recycled properly, leading to large amounts of waste.

LED Bulbs reduce this waste thanks to their much longer life span compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.

But, LED Bulbs aren’t just for the energy conscious, they’re also for the style conscious…

#4 - LED Bulbs are available in a wide range of colours!

LED Bulbs are available in a wide range of temperatures making it easy for you to get the perfect mood lighting in every room of your home. Take a look at this handy scale below that displays the colours available and their corresponding Kelvin value.

Light colours and their temperature in Kelvin

At the top end, we have temperatures such as Cool White (4000K), which are most often found in bathrooms & commercial or retail premises.

Warm White (3000K) are the in-between temperature stages and can be found in a wide range of environments in homes and offices.

Very Warm White (2700K) are usually deployed in living rooms & bedrooms where you might want a more relaxed ambience. Warmer temperatures are perfect for more homely environments but also help with circadian rhythms, getting our bodies into routines by warming the light environments in the evenings & mornings.

Of course, we also stock a range of dimmable LED Bulbs, so you can choose the perfect lighting environment for your home.

But it’s not just temperatures of white that are on offer, in our Kosnic & Deltech ranges, we offer a range of coloured GU10 LED Bulbs including blues, reds, greens and even colour changing LED Bulbs.

No matter what temperature you choose in your home, you won’t have to wait long to see it.

#5 - LED Bulbs light up instantly!

There are few things worse than those morning panics you get when you should have left 10 minutes ago but you can’t find your keys! You go to check the living room, but you flip the light switch… still in the dark. Wouldn’t it be great if you could flip the switch and have the light you need, instantly?

That’s what you get from LED Bulbs. Instant light when you need it most meaning you’re not wasting time waiting for a light bulb to reach full brightness. LED Bulbs for this reason are a great alternative to incandescent & halogen bulbs in places like cupboards, cellars, lofts where you’ll be nipping in and out frequently. Replacing high traffic incandescent bulbs with LED Bulbs is a must.
