What is a USB socket?

Are USB Sockets Safe?

There is no change in safety between a normal 3-pin wall socket and a USB wall socket. They must conform to the same BS 1363 safety standard*, meaning that you can install them with confidence that you’re not introducing a hazard into your home.

In many USB sockets the USB port is continually powered, unlike a 3-pin plug which can be switched off. However, the draw when nothing is plugged in is limited to 0.5W, and the only danger posed by this would also be a danger for a 3-pin plug (wet hands or metal objects).
