London's iconic Tower Bridge will have its lights replaced with new energy efficient LED bulbs ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.
The current lighting solution used for Tower Bridge is 25-years-old, but thanks to funding raised by the mayor of London, the City of London Corporation and EDF energy, the Thames crossing is about to get a makeover.
It is hoped that the new LED lighting system, which will cut energy consumption by 40 per cent, will be in place ahead of next year's sporting event.
London's mayor Boris Johnson said: "It's fantastic to now be able to crack on with this work to make [Tower Bridge] even better, brighter and greener and at no cost to the taxpayer."
Recently, research from energy firm E.ON showed that only a fifth of small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK use energy efficient equipment - including low-energy LED bulbs - in the workplace.
