LED bulbs light up football stadium

The University of Michigan's football stadium has been fitted with LED products from one of the world's leading manufacturers.

High-brightness LED bulbs from Cree have been used in the new LED scoreboards and video systems, made by Lighthouse Technologies, at the 'the Big House', which is the US's largest football ground.

Offering 40 per cent more viewing area than the previous scoreboards, the new screens feature Cree's 3-in-1 high intensity output and wide viewing angles.

Mike Watson, senior director of marketing for LED components at Cree said that "the University of Michigan is a shining example of how sports arenas can increase the fan experience by upgrading to LEDs".

Built in 1927, the stadium regularly hosts crowds of over 100,000 people. Its record attendance was in September this year, when 114,800 attended its first ever night game against the University of Notre Dame.

Cree recently announced the launch of a new range of ultra-efficient LED lamps for use in compact lighting applications.
