A university building lit by LED bulbs has won a prestigious lighting gong at Architectural Lighting Magazine's annual awards
The John E Jaqua academic centre at the University of Oregon was awarded the magazine's light and architectural design award, which honours outstanding and innovative projects within the field of architectural lighting design.
Working with architectural firm ZGF Partnership, Interface Engineering Lighting (IEL) created "a tranquil environment for studying", designed specifically to cater to the need of student athletes. The design uses products from Tivoli Lighting, including the company's innovative TivoFlex LED product.
Lighting designer at IEL Mark Godfrey said that the building made use of technology to create the required atmosphere.
"We really needed lighting systems with more focused intensity," he explained, adding that "fluorescent and ceramic metal halide do not provide the combination of smooth linear focused intensity that [LED lighting] provides".
Northern Irish construction firm Graham was recently crowed the UK's greenest building by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors thanks in part to the installation of energy-efficient lighting.
