OSRAM LED bulbs 'offer 20% more output'

OSRAM's new range of  LEDs offer up to 20 per cent more output than predecessors, the company claims.

The latest Oslon SSL lamps also provide improved thermal stability and a longer lifespan. The company claims that if an operating current of 700 mA is used at 80 degrees Celsius, the bulb will last 100,000 hours.

Stressing the importance of lifespan in light sources, the manufacturer has said the bulbs are suitable for use in both day and night lighting, in commercial horticulture, 'architainment' situations and for stage lighting.

Martin Wittman, marketing manager at OSRAM said that the increase in brightness will benefit customers.

"In commercial horticulture, for example, lighting systems with these LEDs can result in huge energy savings and low electricity costs," he explained.

In practical terms, the higher light output means fewer bulbs will be needed to achieve the same brightness.

OSRAM recently won two gongs at the Lighting for Tomorrow awards.
